[From Wikipedia] "Revenge is a dish best served cold." - suggesting that emotional detachment ("cold blooded") is best for taking revenge. In some usages it is used to mean that when taking vengeance, a great deal of time (in some cases even years) is necessary for both planning and the sweet feeling of revenge.
